It is not the body’s posture, but the heart’s attitude that counts when we pray. ~ Billy Graham
Note: I created the below format for myself to pray so there’s both structure and ability to have a personal conversation with God.
Components & Order of My Prayers:
- Thanks & Praise ~ Gratitude for all I have
- Forgiveness / Repentance
- Wisdom / Knowledge / Understanding / Faith / insight
- Integrity
- Above all else (beyond job; beyond security; beyond success)
- Above all other character traits
- Circumstances:
- Not to pray for better circumstances as much as to pray to become a better man; be better able to adapt and overcome
- more wisdom
- more skill
- More Discipline
- Pray for:
- Family & Friends
- others
- Strength
- To overcome my weaknesses
- To develop better skills & better habits
- To take captive every thought
- More Discipline
- Giving:
- Giving to Charity
- Tithing
- Close & Amen…
- Thanks & Praise
Poem that I wrote using the format from above. It’s called my daily Prayer:
Title: Daily Prayer
________
~ Thank you for this day, thank you for this life
~ Thank you for my children and my Christian wife
~ Please forgive me God, my weakness as a man
~ I go to you for wisdom Lord and pray to understand
________
~ Integrity’s the answer in a world of moral strife
~ Where circumstance cuts deeply and goodness starts to die
~ Praying for my family and friends that I have known
~ To overcome our fears and doubts & grasp the love You’ve shown
________
~ Lord give me strength, to conquer weakness in my heart
~ When my willing spirit falters it tears my soul apart
~ I’m asking for more courage with the talents that I hold
~ The disciplines to master and resolve to be so bold
________
~ Thank you God again for this chance to be alive
~ Even if my time is brief salvation will arrive
~ Let me grasp the wisdom of all that I should be
~ And empathy for others who find themselves in need
________
~ And Lord I close this prayer in a humbled gratitude
~ Emotions overwhelming but my spirit is renewed
~ All alone I pray to You, knowing in my heart
~ Our everyday decisions, and faith is where we start.
